What products are you trading? Would you describe more the position's responsibilities? Why do you need math background? Just looking for high IQ or do you have/is developing quantitative models?

Hi GiangLe

Read and enjoyed your posts in this forum. Would you be interested in joining our investment company ?
We can discuss this matter in private if you like.

We are looking for both experienced and unexperienced but talented people. We do in-house training. I'm myself a mathematician and that may be why I want to attract people with mathematical background :-)

IPA does many things in VN: brokerage (VNDirect), direct investments, fund management, proprietary trading, ...

Hi Dr Dung
It is a great news that a a well known name in vietnamese mathematics community now works full time in finance (you have been involved with stock long before the technology burble?). I am not interested in working in Vietnam right now but a private talk with you would be very helpful and will help bolster my confidence.

Hi Dr Dung
I'm really interested in which model you are using in Vietnam, especially for prop trading. I've visited your company website, it seems IPA doesn't have very strong profiles. How does IPA attract us?

@Son

I first got interested in stocks in 1997 (just before a mini-crash in the US market, if I recall correctly)

Would be nice to talk with you about finance

@shinichi

Actually IPA has quite a strong management team. The proof is in the numbers. It grew from a small capital base to $300M+ market cap as of today, and it will probably have a market cap > $1B before long. (Of course $1B is still epsilon by international standards, but that number is big enough to make many people happy)

I can't say in a public forum what models does IPA use, but we (will) use whatever works, and we really care about risk management.

@ Dr Dung
I don't think the growth of market cap is that meaningful, as the index has been multiplied by 3 or 4. It depends on how long your guys have been trading in VN market. Please correct me if I'm wrong but I don't see how people could do fund management in Vietnam where short sell is not allowed and no hedge instrument. All investors are happy in bull market and vice versa. I believe prop trading activities are even more risky, as moreover the brokerage is expensive.

However, it's greet news for many of us here that we may have several opportunities to work in Vietnam. I would appreciate a talk with Dr Dung about some strategies/models ...

@shinichi
Are you a prop trader?

@dartagnan: if I'm good enough, I'd love to be a prob-trader. How is life at LB?

@tata

We're not unhappy when the market goes down. After each market crash there are lots of opportunities, you just have to be prepared.

The are of course many challenges in VN : low liquidity, no short selling (though actually you can still short if you can borrow shares from other people), etc. But there are also many opportunities in VN. Of course there are lots of opportunities elsewhere too, and IPA will also enter international markets.

If you're an individual investor in VN, the brokerage fees can be expensive (much more expensive than in the US in any case). But if you own a brokerage (like IPA does) then it means a good cash flow. For a market maker in VN, high spread between bid and ask prices will compensate for high exchange fees.

Who says you can't manage a fund without hedging instruments. I don't believe quantitative hedging is a central part of Buffet's strategies either.

@shinichi

not at the moment
